Short Sands Surf Day
With such a busy summer I haven't had anywhere as much time to go out to the coast as I would like, however, recently a group of friends and I were able to spend the day at Short Sands surfing and playing in the water.
These images are actually video captures as I have been wanting to get into video work more for a while now. I spent about an hour swimming around in the water as my friends surfed, getting footage of the waves, my friends and just the ocean. This day was one of the best I've ever had the privilege of experiencing at the Oregon coast. It was warm enough to sunbathe after swimming and surfing.
We had enough boards collectively that we all took turns surfing with the different sized boards. As I go more frequently to the coast I get more comfortable on the boards and have noticed a lot of progress. This trip I had a number of times where I got up and was truly riding the waves for a decent amount of time! That exhilaration and adrenaline rush is unbeatable and the feeling of finally getting to a point where I feel like I'm surfing and not just falling is so worth the time and energy put into learning and practicing surfing.
Naturally mother nature had to put me in my place and after about an hour of surfing I got totally pummeled by a wave and swallowed so much water that when I broke the surface I was actively trying not to puke for about ten minutes as I slowly made my way back in to our set up. That seemed like a pretty obvious stopping point for the day.
We spent the afternoon snacking and hanging out on the sand talking then when the tide went out we walked around to the edge of the cove to look at the anemones and starfish. Next time I plan on keeping my wetsuit on until the tide goes out so I can swim over and see them up close. Overall it was a magical day at the coast and I can't wait to be back!
